Now that the video of Kanhaiya Kumar speaking inside Patiala House Court on 17 Feb is being telecast on TV and a transcript of that video is available, the following facts are very important.
The man who Kanhaiya identified as having been part of the group that beat him was apparently in a black striped suit. According to the police officers on the video that man was part of Kanhaiya's escort party or gained entry along with that escort party. Kanhaiya was escorted by a police contingent from South District police.
That man was allowed to walk away by the Police. He had the audacity to question a police officer for his ID when the police officer asked the man to identify himself.
When Kanhaiya was attacked inside the gate where there were parked motor-cycles, the mob shouted aagaya, meaning they were waiting for him.
It has been reported that the police changed the gate from which Kanhaiya was taken in at the last minute.
All this shows that the attack was planned and the Police were part of this plan. The man in the striped suit could even be a police or intelligence agent and not a lawyer.
What the Police ought to have done was to cordon off the route that Kanhaiya would have taken. Instead he was led by his police escort party right to the waiting mob.
There must be CCTV cameras at the gate. Thus the attack might even be captured on video.
Another thing that the video exposes is the lies on oath by the Delhi Police. Bassi and the police status report affirmed by a senior police officer have stated that there was no attack.
In the video, the attack is confirmed by Police officers who even divulge that a policeman accompanying Kanhaiya was also attacked with a blade by someone part of the same mob.
So the top-most hierarchy of the Delhi Police has lied and misled the Supreme Court and the Delhi High Court. This is now established by documentary evidence.
In all this, the role of the Supreme Court Committee in recording this video and exposing the truth is the most heartening.
